Battery Cell Voltage and Specific Gravity is specified for vented nickel-cadmium batteries in maintenance testing at clause 7.18.1.2.B.3 of ANSI/NETA MTS-2023. The clause calls for each monoblock or cell voltage and the total battery voltage to be measured with the charger energized in float; the clause names no specific gravity reading for a nickel-cadmium cell.
Value: vented nickel-cadmium batteries

5.0 Vented NiCd Batteries - 5.3.1 Full Charge
"The density of electrolyte in NiCd cells does not change appreciably with charge, so specific gravity does not indicate state of charge. This state can be estimated when the battery is on float. To hold battery voltage at 1.40VPC, a fully charged battery requires about 1 milliampere (excluding load current) per ampere-hour of capacity."
